چکیده

This paper presents a database interface for geo-scientifit applications. It is based on a “geoobject model” derived from an extended entity-relationship model, so that geoscientific objects and their representation in maps can be described. Special datatypes are used for geometric and temporal attributes. Then a database language is introduced which integrates object model and datatypes: Queries and updates can be formulated by mostly descriptive means, and their semantics is explainable by an object calculus adapted to the model. In addition, standard operations like map construction are supported.

3D Modelling of Under Ground Burried Objects Based on Ground Penetration Radar

There is a growing demand for mapping and 3D modelling of buried objects such as pipelines, agricultural hetitage, landmines and other buried objects. Usually, large scale and high resolution maps from these objects are needed. Manually map generation and modeling of these objects are cost and time consuming and is dependent on lots of resources. Therefore, automating the subsurface mapping and...

Integration of 3D Geoscientific Visualisation Tools with help of a Geo-Database Kernel

Visualisation and the handling of large data sets are key issues in the workflow of many applications in today’s life and engineering sciences. However, from a software and data engineering point of view, these two important services are often located in two separated, i.e. independent and closed software systems. This means that the exchange of data and operations between software systems, i.e...

The 3D Voronoi Diagram: A Tool for the Modelling of Geoscientific Datasets

A lot of efforts and money are being spent, both by commercial companies and by the academic world, for the development of tools to model 3D geographical information. In most cases, the ”3D GISs” built are systems where 3D objects can be visualised (in a 3D environment), and where in some cases primitive forms of spatial analysis are available (e.g. overlay between objects, buffer zones and vie...

GIS-based Simulation of Soft Geo-objects

To simulate dynamic soft geo-objects and reflect geoscientific laws, the authors discuss the characteristics, mathematical expression, parameter representation and rendering of GIS Flow Element (FE) and GIS Soft Voxel (SV). The simulation and rendering algorithms of GIS FE and GIS SV are based on particle system and metaball technology in computer graphics. The main differences are that GIS FE ...

Distinguishing Instances and Evidence of Geographical Concepts for Geospatial Database Design

In many geoscientific disciplines concepts are regularly discovered and modified, but the architecture of our geospatial information systems is primarily aimed at supporting static conceptual structures. This results in a semantic gap between our evolving understanding of these concepts and how they are represented in our systems. The research reported here provides better database support for ...
